I enjoy redecorating my home each season, but time is not always on my side. Although I’m running The Boys around town each morning to check off their “Daily List” to ward off anxiety and behaviors, I don’t often have time to enjoy a leisurely trip to my favorite home decor stores to browse for new ideas. I even do as much online grocery shopping as I can to help decrease our time in the store.
The Boys do really well and often better at remembering what we need, but Autism is unpredictable. My approach is to always plan for the worst but expect the best. So, on good days, we may stop at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or take a little longer at “Super” (aka Target) and check out the Dollar Spot for inexpensive decor and surfaces I can Chalk.
This year’s Spring update
If you’re wanting a nice focal piece, Decor Steals has a few magnolia wreaths available for less than $40. It’s hard to find nice ones that are not overpriced, and if the magnolia garland I recently purchased is any indication of the wreath quality it’s definitely a good buy. The shipping cost for any order is just $5 no matter what you purchase. And considering some items from Decor Steals are bulky and heavy, that’s a pretty good deal!
Another option is taking advantage of Michael’s and Joann’s buy online/pickup in store. I’ve used both a few times and it was very easy, a huge time saver and helps with not missing out on using a 50-60% coupon because we can’t make it out that day. Hobby Lobby is another online option, but you have to consider shipping cost into your budget. I’m rather spoiled by Amazon Prime so I have to really want something to pay for shipping.
I don’t often buy seasonal items from Amazon, but I do price compare when I’m searching for something specific. I mostly use Amazon for my DIY and Craft supplies The last home decor item I purchased were rustic hooks for a few wall decor pieces I’ve been wanting to make.
I usually buy my hooks at Hobby Lobby during the weeks they’re selling at 50% off, but I searched several locations, several days in a row with no luck. Sometimes it’s not worth the extra time and gas and just easier to use Amazon to get exactly what I want.
