I’m often asked what I buy for The Boys electronics, devices for safety in the car and around the house and protective equipment for myself. Some of the items I’ve used personally, in my former work life or I’ve helped another family research what they needed for the specific behavior they were working through putting on extinction. Be sure to bookmark this post and check back often for updates.
ALL ITEMS MENTIONED SHOULD BE USED AS AIDES WHILE WORKING TO TEACH REPLACEMENT BEHAVIORS AND FUNCTIONAL COMMUNICATION. PLEASE SEEK THE ADVICE OF A WELL-QUALIFIED BCBA TO HELP YOU.
If an Otterbox Defender is enough protection, I still recommend removing the plastic screen cover from the case (be sure to get the sticky residue as well. I use lemon essential oil) and putting a piece of Gorilla Glass on the phone to give added protection.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Leather Gloves (great for protecting against biting!)
I like these Arm Guards but an old pair of thick mens socks with the toes cut out work great as well. I have also used a small Blocking Pad but found the arm guards work best for helping to keep my hands free.
